GOD as GURU - Blessing of Lord Shiva

In Gita Sri Krishna says - "We are independent of doing wrong or right in this world, but results of deeds will be given by him." And this is the reason wrong and right thing happen in this world. No doubt that Lord shiva should be worshiped as GOD but the results will given at God's will. No body can expect the result and nobody shouldn't. But if you consider the same GOD as GURU(your spiritual teacher), you are in a different way for the following reasons:

1> Since you are disciple of the supreme power, it is His(Guru)whole and sole responsibility to take care of you and to guide you the right way in your difficulties. You just follow whatever is coming in your mind, thinking of whether it is wrong or right, it's your GURU's duty to rectify you. And believe me He rectifies very smartly. I can give you several examples from my life later.

2> You are not forced to abide by religious rules and regulations. What to eat? What to follow? What to do? What to not to do? --- You are free from all questions. Your GURU Shiva will take care of it. If GURU shiva thinks that doing something is wrong for you, he will play a script in your life, where by "self-realization" you will avoid that wrong doing. This is very important to note that now you in "self-realization" mode.

3> You are always positive, because you know that you are guided by your GURU Shiva. And a repetitive positive thoughts bring tremendous energy to you or you can say - "You are the holder of Supreme Conscious Mindful Energy."

Shiv Shishya and changing thought to reality

Being a desciple of shiva thats is Shiv Shishya anyone can be benefited with - "Changing thought to reality". A shiv shishya thinks and make a plan and it happens.

I want to share you few of my experiences. Basically I am a Computer Software Engineer, working in Kolkata. And my life revolves round computer programs. In my early life of programming I suddenly used to stuck to a problem when writting a complex programs for computer. I tried hard and hard not succeeded. Then miracle happened accidentally I wrote two or three programming words in program or accidentally I triggered or switched off a setting and program started to work. These events happened in my life several times. I don't know the exact reason but I believe that there is some force around me which helps me when I am in difficult situations or you may say in delima. Perhaps this is due to that I am a shiv shishya.

Spirituality - Orgainsation - Marketing - Making Money

This a very unfortunate incident happening today, that a concept of spiritualism takes birth in a human(saint) mind with a great spiritual effort and research (i.e. dhyana and tapsaya) and then the concept spreads to many devotee who thought the human(saint) as their GURU and gradually it becomes an organization. Then close disciples of that great saint or the dependents of that holy saint take the responsibility to earn money by marketing the spirituality. The business starts by demanding money in the name of organization and the holy saint and thus organization become more and more rich as per as money is concerned simultaneously it becomes home of criminal activities and the people associated with them are being cheated by the higher authority of the organization. The original spiritual concept is lost in between and also the GURU. This a real fact. Please beware of such organizations and GURU.

Aum Namah Shivaya

Aum Namaḥ Shivaya is among the foremost and powerful mantras. Its meaning is "adoration (namas) to Shiva, preceded by the mystical syllable Aum. It is called Panchakshara, or "having five syllables". Shaivite mystics hold that within its celestial tones and hues resides all of the intuitive knowledge of Śaivism. The Aum Namaḥ Shivaya mantra appears for the first time, still without the Aum, in a traditional Vedic prayer to Rudra called Shri Rudram (Rudra is considered an earlier aspect and name of Lord Shiva). In this context, Shiva retains its original meaning as an adjective meaning "auspicious, benign, friendly", a euphemistic epithet of Rudra.

Meaning of Namah Shivaya

Namah Shivaya is the most holy name of God Shiva, noted at the very center of the Vedas.

Na is the Lord's concealing grace, Ma is the world, Shi stands for Shiva, Va is His revealing grace, Ya is the soul. The five elements, too, are embodied in this ancient formula for invocation. Na is earth, Ma is water, Shi is fire, Va is air, and Ya is ether, or Akasha(sky). Namah Shivaya has such power, the mere intonation of these syllables reaps its own reward in salvaging the soul from bondage of the treacherous instinctive mind and the steel bands of a perfected externalized intellect. Namah Shivaya quells the instinct, cuts through the steel bands and turns this intellect within and on itself, to face itself and see its ignorance. Sages declare that mantra is life, that mantra is action, that mantra is love and that the repetition of mantra, japa, bursts forth wisdom from within.

Namah Shivaya is in truth both Agama and Veda. Namah Shivaya represents all mantras and tantras. Namah Shivaya is our souls, our bodies and possessions. Namaḥ Śivāya has become our sure protection."

Namah Shivaya sounds related directly to the principles which govern each of the first six chakras on the spine...Earth, water, fire, air, ether. Notice that this does not refer to the chakras themselves which have a different set of seed sounds, but rather the principles which govern those chakras in their place. A very rough, non-literal translation could be something like, 'Om and salutations to that which I am capable of becoming.' This mantra will start one out on the path of subtle development of spiritual attainments. It is the beginning on the path of Siddha Yoga, or the Yoga of Perfection of the Divine Vehicle."

"Na" refers to the Gross Body (annamayakosa), "Ma" refers to Pranic Body (pranamayakosa), "Shi" or "Chi" refers to Mental Body (manonmayakosa), "Va" refers to Intellectual Body (vignanamayakosa) and "Ya" refers to Blissful Body (anandamayakosa) and "M" or the "silence" beyond these syllables refers to the Soul or Life within.

Shiva Shishya and Cosmic Activities

Lord Shiva represents the aspect of the Supreme Being (Brahman of the Upanishads) that continuously dissolves to recreate in the cyclic process of creation, preservation, dissolution and recreation of the universe and therefore deserves of being guru of all gurus.

Owing to His cosmic activity of dissolution and recreation, the words destroyer and destruction have been erroneously associated with Lord Shiva. This difficulty arises when people fail to grasp the true significance of His cosmic role. The creation sustains itself by a delicate balance between the opposing forces of good and evil. When this balance is disturbed and sustenance of life becomes impossible, Lord Shiva dissolves the universe for creation of the next cycle so that the unliberated souls will have another opportunity to liberate themselves from bondage with the physical world. Thus, Lord Shiva protects the souls from pain and suffering that would be caused by a dysfunctional universe. In analogous cyclic processes, winter is essential for spring to appear and the night is necessary for the morning to follow. To further illustrate, a goldsmith does not destroy gold when he melts old irreparable golden jewelry to create beautiful new ornaments.

Lord Shiva is the Lord of mercy and compassion. He protects devotees from evil forces such as lust, greed, and anger. He grants boons, bestows grace and awakens wisdom in His devotees.

Since a disciple holds the power and quality of his/her Guru or teacher. Being disciple of Shiva, the disciple also holds the power to control cosmic activities.

Self (atma) is one's real guru and guide and atma is Shiva

"Those who investigate the nature of this world with their own efforts manage to lift themselves up even without the help of a guru. The self (atma) is one's real guru and guide, and man is fully capable of arriving at his own good by both direct
perception and inference." ~Shrimad Bhagavata Purana: 11.7.20

There is so much confusion about guru. Guru is teacher, plain and simple. Anyone can be your guru - anyone you learn anything from IS guru. Hopefully, if we are learning, then our life is a continual procession of different gurus of all shapes and forms. The shastras glorify the Satguru - i.e. the person from whom we learn about spirituality - and say s/he is to be revered. But it's important to realize that even if we are not aware of a specific spiritual teacher in our lives, we still have many gurus. Just pick one ;-) Gurus are manifestations of God, Siva, Atma. They come to us and teach us. We learn when we humble ourself (i.e. ego) before something greater. This humility is what attracts the Lord's grace. As my teacher says: God's grace is like water; it flows only to low places, not high ones. If you want grace, make yourself like a valley or well (humility, surrender), not like an outcropping or mountain (pride). Outward show of surrender is not useful. Only what is inside counts.

Shiv explains himself as Guru(गुरू) in 'Shri Guru Gita'

He who is the Guru is Shiva Himself, so declare the scriptures, and the fact that Shiva is the Guru, is reminded to us in all the Smritis. He, who makes any distinction between the two, is guilty of the crime of uniting with his own Guru’s wife.

Importance of Namah Shivaya Jaap -

  • Namaḥ Shivaya has such power, the mere intonation of these syllables reaps its own reward in salvaging the soul from bondage of the treacherous instinctive mind and the steel bands of a perfected externalized intellect.

  • Namaḥ Shivaya quells the instinct, cuts through the steel bands and turns this intellect within and on itself, to face itself and see its ignorance

  • Namaḥ Shivaya is in truth both Āgama and Veda. Namaḥ Shivaya represents all mantras and tantras. Namaḥ Shivaya is our souls, our bodies and possessions. Namaḥ Shivaya has become our sure protection.

  • Upamanyu said that if you practise this mantra enough so that it vibrates continuously in your heart, then you don't need to do any yoga or further practises like pranayam.

  • Adi Shankaracharya says that the name "Shiva" means "the one who purifies the one that repeats His name."

Scientific basis of Chanting Hindu Mantras

Another ritual that scientists have investigated is mantra chanting. A team of researchers in India, at the Vivekananda Kendra Yoga Research Foundation in Bangalore, reported in the Indian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, that chanting the mantra ‘OM’ mentally, achieved a significant reduction in heart rate, which led to a deep form of relaxation, with increased alertness In 1998, the same team also reported that chanting a meaningful syllable such as ‘OM’, caused a decrease in heart and breath rate, compared to a neutral syllable such as ‘ONE’, which did not produce a similar effect.
Such research clearly indicates that mantras are not just empty syllables or meaningless phrases. They are loaded with mystical power, which manifests during chanting. This power of a mantra creates some form of vibration in the body and brain, triggering beneficial health effects in the body. More important is their effect on the atma, which experiences peace.

Scientific basis of hindu meditation

Neuroscientists reveal results of their research conducted over many years. In an experiment the researchers injected a radioactive dye through a long tube into a person's vein at the precise moment that he indicated having reached his “peak moment of meditation”. After that, they took SPECT (Single Photo Emission Computed Tomography) scans of his brain. The dye that flowed into his brain remained there for hours. The SPECT scans freeze-framed the brain’s activity before and during his peak moment. The results showed that in the usually active area known as the orientation area (OA) there was decreased neurological activity . This was also the finding in several other meditators. The researchers reasoned that although the OA was as active as normal, the inflow of information had been blocked. This explained the decreased activity in the area. They further proposed that without information flowing in from the senses, the brain would fail to find the boundary between the self and the external world. As such, the brain would perceive the self as limitless and interwoven with everyone and everything the mind sensed, and this experience would feel undoubtedly real.
In reality, this is how Hindu mystics have described their peak meditative or mystical moments.
Other researchers have studied the Hindu meditation known as Transcendental Meditation (TM). They report of its benefits, that long term practitioners of TM have significantly lower blood pressure than those who do not practice TM.

Scientific basis of Hindu Rituals

Man being a social animal, needs people to survive, to live a healthy life.
According to the medical researchers, for a person to live a long, healthy life, he needs to have a strong bond with his social group. One of the key factors that contributes towards strengthening social cohesion is rituals. Rituals bring individuals together in one way or another for a mutually beneficial purpose. For example, having a meal together in a group has several positive advantages compared to eating alone, such as creating unity, discussing issues concerning the group, strengthening personal friendships, etc. Living a hermit’s life is not healthy for the majority of people. The brain needs an optimal flow of input to maintain its health. Absence of change results in boredom, which can be stressful . The role of the brain is critical in maintaining balance. It determines whether an individual breaks down in the face of stressful demands while another seems to thrive with similar challenges. This is where rituals attain significance. Moreover, neuroscientists have been able to record and ‘see’ the interesting events that occur in the brain during certain rituals.
